SUMMARY:Open Gardens SA - Luna's Garden
DESCRIPTION:Tucked away at the end of a long\, hedge-lined drive is Luna’s Garden\, named for the fine life-sized bronze statue of Luna\, a joyful\, pony-tailed young girl who appears to be playing in the garden. The drive opens to a gravel courtyard flanked by box-edged\, flower-filled garden beds\, providing a hint of what lies beyond! \nFlowers are everywhere and are a highlight of the garden! The many roses have been selected for their colour as well as their ability to repeat-flower\, including David Austin varieties and climbers trained up and over walls. A huge old oak tree is the cornerstone of the main garden\, and sheltered beneath its spreading canopy are a wide selection of shade-loving plants\, some chosen for their flowers\, and others for their interesting foliage. Hedges are a feature: the tall ones provide privacy and a dense green backdrop to the colourful planting\, and the smaller ones define garden beds. \nGarden Size: 1200 sqm\nExtra Activities: Morning and afternoon teas\nEntry: $10 adults\, under 18 free and some concessions are available. Pay at the gate.

SUMMARY:Open Gardens SA - Brian's Garden
DESCRIPTION:Spread over more than an acre of gently sloping hillside\, Brian’s Garden surrounds an elegant\, traditionally styled home constructed nine years ago. \nThe owner\, Margaret\, and her late husband\, Brian\, had returned to Adelaide after living overseas and were keen for their new property to reflect elements of garden styles they had admired in their travels. The garden is named for Brian because\, although it was professionally designed\, his enthusiasm and appreciation for aesthetics influenced the layout and planting. Close to the house\, the garden is formal with roses and perennials softening the hardscaping and hedges\, creating strong design lines. A patio area features a charming circular pond with an ornate bronze fountain\, adding the soothing sound of trickling water and providing a lovely view from the extensive\, well-equipped entertainment area. \nFurther from the house\, the style is more relaxed with stone walls retaining the sloping land and creating a series of garden beds filled with a rich mix of foliage plants that blend beautifully to create interesting combinations of shape\, leaf colour and texture. Conifers with columnar form rise like exclamation marks from the understory planting\, and trees\, including many deciduous varieties\, mark the changing of the seasons\, some flowering in spring\, also providing summer shade and colour in autumn. \nGarden Size: 1.5 acres\nCharity: Zonta Adelaide Hills\nActivities: Morning and afternoon teas by Zonta Adelaide Hills\nEntry: $10 adults\, under 18 free and some concessions are available \nHeathfield.
