The Dominican Peace and Sophia Gardens are beautiful, calm and uplifting – a secluded, serene and special space.
Hidden away behind the high brick wall that encloses Cabra College is a surprise – overlooked by heritage stone buildings and a magnificent old Moreton Bay fig tree, is a hectare of informal, tranquil gardens. The Peace Gardens were established in 1987 as a memorial garden, a quiet yet stimulating space to connect with nature and enjoy all a garden gives. The Sophia Garden shares the site and surrounds the Sophia Centre, a unique and inspiring building architecturally designed and symbolically shaped as a spiral. A vibrant mosaic, also spiral in design, is the work of artist Gail Donovan. Mature trees create a sheltered feel, and beneath their shady canopies, meandering paths connect several themed gardens and areas with varied planting styles.
