The black picket fence in front of the Sanders’ home allows enticing glimpses of the profusion of vibrantly coloured flowers and foliage that fill this very pretty cottage garden! A lychgate smothered in the soft apricot blooms of the lovely old rose, Crepuscle, opens to brick paths that weave through garden beds planted with roses and more roses!
The roses are matched in flower power and colour by the layers of annuals, perennials, perfumed and flowering shrubs that jostle for space amongst them. Salvias in a multitude of colours, iris, lilies, blue ageratum, daisies, foxgloves and lavender intermingle in an exuberant mix, and climbing roses cover arches and add splashes of colour to walls and fences. In the back garden, there are more bright drifts of flowering plants, but in a spot sheltered by trees, birds nest ferns, staghorns, and other shade-loving plants thrive.
