About Open Gardens SA
Open Gardens SA (OGSA) was first established in 2015 after the disbandment of the famous national Open Garden Scheme. Open Gardens SA was established as a not-for-profit organisation to continue the opportunity to open privately owned gardens to the public and not specifically to raise funds for charity. The South Australian organisation has become an enormous success with over 120,000 visitors enjoying the gardens. Open Gardens SA charges a modest entry fee. The garden owners receive half of the entrance fee to distribute to good causes and charities of their choice – these generous garden owners have raised more than $1 million dollars for charities! In addition to the 50% share of the entrance fee, many garden owners raise funds through Devonshire Teas, plant sales etc., for charity.
As a not-for-profit organisation, OGSA has implemented its own support program of projects that also bring benefit to the community.
Open Gardens SA donates funds, when available, to a range of projects or charities, including specific projects identified by various botanic gardens in South Australia. Funding has also been provided towards scholarship grants offered by the Playford Trust. In a commitment to support the community, Open Gardens SA donated $10,000 to BlazeAid to begin much-needed repairs after the terrible 2020 summer bushfires, as well as $9000 in grants to Community Gardens during the 2020-21 open garden season.
OGSA is delighted to again invite visitors through the garden gates as we welcome Spring 2022!
All gardens open from 10am until 4.30pm on the dates listed. Please note the new pricing for the garden entry fee – the first increase in seven years. General entry to each garden is $10 per adult, with a discounted fee of $8 per adult for Open Gardens SA Members and for those with a Commonwealth Government Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card (but not a Seniors Card). Children under 18 receive free entry. Visitors are encouraged to bring cash as EFTPOS facilities may not always be available. The gardens will open under Covid guidelines as may exist at the time of opening.
